Throughout the history of international relations, deterrence has been one of the most crucial systems for managing order and maintaining security. Nations have consistently sought security within their strategic domains, with deterrence emerging as a scientific subject alongside war in strategic studies. This concept encompasses a set of fundamental principles, rules, theories, ideologies, intellectual foundations, and nationally accepted basic tenets that are articulated by political-military leaders in accordance with national security doctrine and prevailing military thought. In this context, the crucial issue that emerges is the conceptualization of the Islamic Republic of Iran's deterrence model. Given Iran's security threats and the U.S. military presence, a critical question arises: what security paradigm can Iran employ to safeguard its strategic interests in the Persian Gulf region while preventing the outbreak of war that would incur substantial costs? This descriptive-analytical study examines how the Islamic Republic of Iran can utilize deterrence elements such as regional power projection and missile technology advancement to mitigate potential war risks, thereby investigating the mechanisms of deterrence in securing Iran's strategic position in the Persian Gulf. The research operates on the premise that through these deterrence strategies, Iran can effectively prevent armed conflict while maintaining its security objectives in this vital waterway.
