The Oman Sea region is a geographical area located in the southeast of the Islamic Republic of Iran and serves as the geopolitical complement to the Persian Gulf. In the current context, the Oman Sea region remains a relatively underexplored domain across multiple dimensions, including the overlooked role of geopolitical factors and the interests of peripheral states as well as regional and extra-regional powers in this area concerning the country's defense issues. This oversight has resulted in the loss of numerous opportunities while exacerbating and bringing threats closer to Iran's national interests in this strategic zone. The present study seeks to answer the following question: Given the critical geopolitical and geo-economic significance of the Oman Sea, how does it influence the security and economic policies of the Islamic Republic? Employing a descriptive-explanatory methodology with a research-oriented approach, this study concludes that the Oman Sea—distanced from the peripheral tensions and upheavals of the Middle East—possesses a historical transit identity and geo-economic value, situating it within the strategic energy ellipse of the peripheral region, characterized predominantly by commerce, a dynamic economy, and transit networks. The North-South and East-West transit corridors serve as vital links connecting the Persian Gulf with East Asia, enabling commercial exchanges between the Persian Gulf littoral states and Central Asia. The enhancement of regional relations between Iran and its southern Arab neighbors will yield favorable political-regional outcomes while fostering economic prosperity for Iran.
