A retrospective analysis reveals that the intellectual jihad to expel colonialism from minds and hearts has been far more challenging than the armed jihad to remove it from the territories of the Islamic world. History has proven that the physical evacuation of occupied lands is achievable; however, victory in the cultural and social spheres hinges solely upon the intellectual prowess of Muslims and their meticulous engagement in theological, rational, and philosophical domains. Jihad, defined as the mobilization of all capacities to repel the enemy, manifests in diverse forms, as the enemy’s assaults occur through multifaceted strategies. Among the most severe and consequential attacks by the adversaries of Islam -inflicting profound damage upon Islamic societies- is cultural invasion. This study examines the conceptualization of jihad and its typologies from an Islamic perspective, delineating its classifications: a mujahid is one who combats the lower self in obedience to God, and must not limit efforts to external adversaries alone. The application of various forms of jihad necessitates specific conditions to justify their employment. The research employs a library-based methodology supplemented by internet searches, extracting themes and dimensions from authoritative texts and analyzing the viewpoints of Sunni and Shiite scholars.
