This study, through a novel reading of Max Weber's The Protestant Ethic and the Spirit of Capitalism within the framework of political imagination, seeks to demonstrate the critical role of imaginative faculty in the emergence and flourishing of civilizations -particularly Islamic civilization. Political imagination constitutes a rare and invaluable essence within both the theoretical and practical reason of philosophers and political thinkers. This concept reached its zenith in the works of thinkers like Max Weber, who harnessed it to elucidate the necessary conditions for the emergence of capitalism. The Protestant ethic and the spirit of capitalism -like other ethical systems belonging to practical reason -require imagination for their actualization, and Weber’s genius lay in forging a connection between the two. Numerous states and nations aspire to achieve capitalist economies and exert considerable effort toward this end. In this context, Weber, employing his political imagination while defending capitalism, meticulously examined Protestant dispositions and uncovered their indispensable role in the formation of capitalism. Consequently, Muslims and Islamic thinkers must also navigate the path of political imagination to realize Islamic civilization -the central strategy of the leaders of the Revolution. Max Weber played a pivotal role in constructing Western civilization through the deployment of political imagination. Similarly, by utilizing this imaginative capacity, Muslim theorists can succeed in establishing Islamic civilization, as will be illustrated through several examples.
