This paper examines the various dimensions of resistance in the conduct of the Prophet of Islam, Muhammad, and seeks to elucidate the causes, principles, objectives, and strategies of his resistance in confronting social, political, cultural, and defensive challenges. The primary objective of this research is to identify the behavioral patterns of the Prophet in the face of various pressures and the practical application of these principles in the contemporary world.
The central research question is: What are the dimensions and components of resistance in the conduct of the Prophet of Islam, and how can it be applied to address the conditions and requirements of today? To answer this question, a descriptive-analytical method has been employed, with primary sources including the Holy Quran, canonical hadith collection, Prophetic biography, and research with historical and comparative approaches being analyzed.
The findings of the study indicate that the Prophet’s resistance was founded on principles such as sincerity, spirituality, justice, combating oppression, defending the oppressed, resisting domination, reliance on God, patience in the face of hardships and adversities, invitation based on wisdom and good counsel, and fostering internal societal cohesion. Furthermore, the Prophet employed strategies such as constructive dialogue with the Jews of Medina, the polytheists of Quraysh, tribal leaders, and the dispatch of envoys to major powers, all while maintaining internal unity, enabling him to withstand intense social and political pressures. The novelty of this research lies in its comprehensive examination of the dimensions of the Prophet’s resistance, its comparison with other forms of resistance, and the delineation of its commonalities and distinctions with other typologies of resistance. By identifying these distinctions and similarities, the study aims to extract a theory of Islamic resistance.
