Abstract

Given the importance of preventing violent behavior in metropolitan areas by immigrants, this study aimed to investigate the role of immigration in committing violent behavior in defenseless urban spaces. A mixed method was used in this study. In order to obtain information on violent behaviors of immigrants and their frequency of occurrence, a secondary analysis method was used, and participatory observation and correlation were used to identify defenseless spaces and the causes of differences in the types of violent behaviors of immigrants. In this study, while examining the prominent opinions of urban theorizing, 124 crime-prone spots in Tehran were considered as study areas, and the required information was collected from 384 people using a researcher-made questionnaire based on the Cochran formula. According to the findings, it can be said that both the physical and social dimensions of urban spaces are effective in making urban spaces defenseless. In terms of the type of violence, social factors are more likely than physical factors to make spaces vulnerable to harassment by defenseless immigrants and play a greater role in making spaces more susceptible to violence and conflict. But physical factors play a greater role in making spaces more susceptible to theft by immigrants. People with low education (illiteracy and low education) and origin from the city, the reason for immigration to earn more income, and the type of individual immigration migrate to metropolitan areas They are more prone to committing violent behaviors (theft, pickpocketing, harassment, and fighting). As their immigration period increases (more than 5 years), the rate of crime decreases, and overall, theft is more common among immigrants than other crimes.
